Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is a fantasy-themed MMORPG developed by Funcom. This game is the first installment in the planned Age of Conan series. The game takes place in the pseudo-historical ancient kingdom of Hyboria. Players can create and customise characters based on four classic archetypes: soldier, rogue, priest or magic-user. You can choose to be Stygian, Cimmerian or Aquilonian and this will determine your sub-class such as assasin, shaman or conqueror.

The game adheres to the typical MMORPG formula like questing, socialising and crafting, but the combat system is original and addictive. With several hundred thousand players, the game is clearly loved by many. Funcom continues to announce and release new content regularly.

Often called EQ, EverQuest is a fantasy based MMORPG featuring a variety of species, character races, and unusual environments. EverQuest offers many opportunities for player-to-player interactions based on questing, commerce, the intrigue of political systems, and the ability to create alliances.

Many of the elements from EverQuest were drawn from the original text-based multi-user dungeon games. In EverQuest, players create and customize their in-game characters by selecting among a variety of races, classes and character attributes. Players carefully choose skills to pursue within the game, such as selecting the character's adventuring occupation. Once characters have been created, quests can be completed in cities and villages located across multiple continents, either by playing alone or within a group or guild context.

Set 500 years from the original game, EverQuest II is an improved version of EverQuest that focuses heavily on questing and killing creatures for loot and experience points.

An optional ‘locked encounters’ feature has been added preventing kill stealing and power leveling, trade skills are more interesting, and additional servers have been added, including closed arenas for mutual PvP and dueling.

Final Fantasy XI is an online role playing game which can be played from both a first-person and third-person perspective. Game play consists of completing quests and missions which advance the main storyline, socializing with other players and crafting.

There is an Auction House in every major city of Vana'diel where players can sell items which they have crafted. Player versus Player combat is strictly limited to matches. The player can control one character that is fully personalized and is encouraged to group with other players and parties to take down particularly tricky enemies.

A true continuation of its predecessor Lineage, Lineage II is a medieval-style fantasy MMORPG.  Compared to its antecedent Lineage II features considerably enhanced first-person 3D graphics utilizing the Unreal 2.0 Engine developed by Epic Games. 

There are five choices of race and a player can have up to seven characters on one server.  Game-play consists of Player versus Player or Player versus Environment, which can be soloed or grouped.  Experience points can be gained through completing quests and fighting monsters, and learning new skills.

Based on the original Lord of the Rings story by J.R.R. Tolkien, players can now re-live their favorite Lord of the Rings characters and choose a path amongst the likes of Elves, Dwarves, and Humans.

Also known as LOTRO, players can choose to fight for things that bring peace to the land or alternatively choose to add corruption to Middle-earth. Much of the gameplay is similar to MMORPGs like Blizzard's World of Warcraft where players control an avatar and move around the game world where they can interact or socialize with other players, perform adventures alone or as a group or even go into PvP or Player versus Player combat. Characters are improved by gaining 'levels' which increases after it earns a set amount of experience points through PvE (Player versus Environment) and storyline adventures.

The reception to the game has been very positive thus far, and will be one of the many games planned under the Lord of the Rings Online series.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, is a fantasy themed  MMORPG created by Sigil Games but later run and developed by Sony Online Entertainment. In this game, you face the challenges in a war-torn world, filled with diverse groups of people who are struggling to rebuild their once great civilizations.

Characters have specific skill sets and one special ability that unlocks at a certain level.  The game also has three primary arenas of play: Adventuring, Crafting and Diplomacy.

World of Warcraft, more commonly known as WoW, is the biggest MMORPG game in History. The game was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and this is their fourth game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe. The game takes place within the world of Azeroth.

Players can choose to create characters of different races and skills. The game rewards success with in-game money, items, experience and reputation. Currently, the highest level that a character can reach is 70 but upon release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, the highest level will become 80.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (more popularly known as WAR) is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based on Game's Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world. The game was developed by Mythic Entertainment (Creators of Dark Age of Camelot) and revolves around the never-ending conflict between two separate factions where the armies of Order (Dwarfs, Empire, High Elves) and the armies of destruction (Greenskins, Chaos, Dark Elves) collide to determine the fate of the Warhammer world. Characters in Warhammer will have a career that will conform to one archetype role but the careers can still be changed based on the basic outline of the character's role. The career archetypes are broken down to the following: Tank, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS and Healer.

Some of the game's features are:

• To enhance the gameplay and make it more fun and challenging for gamers, the game will incorporate Collision Detection, a feature that stops players from moving through other players during battle, and works for both enemy units and friendly ones.
• Realm vs Realm (RvR) gameplay will allow players to fight as part of an army of allied players to defend their homeland or conquer enemy realms.
• Player vs Environment (PvE) allows players to play side-by-side with other allied players in completing Public Quests or go solo and go on a never ending quest to complete the Tome of Knowledge which unlocks Warhammer lore, detailed monster information, new abilities, rewards, and major story plotlines.
